A highly engaged workforce
Employee Engagement Survey
SBS’s annual Employee Engagement Survey showed a strong engagement result of 81 per cent, placing the broadcaster well ahead of both the overall national average and the Australian media and creative industry average. Ninety-two per cent of employees said that they believe in SBS’s purpose, 87 per cent believe that SBS provides a supportive culture for employees from diverse backgrounds, and 92 per cent of all employees said they are proud to work for SBS.
Focus
All employees have a personal Focus work plan which establishes clear goals aligned to team, divisional and organisational objectives, as well as personal career goals. Managers are required to conduct regular conversations with individual team members which, combined with more formal check-ins, form the basis for SBS’s annual performance cycle. This process ensures an open dialogue and ongoing feedback to strengthen performance and employee engagement.
It’s How We Lead
SBS’s dedicated leadership model, It’s How We Lead, supports the continuous improvement of capabilities for all people leaders. As part of the annual Employee Engagement Survey, SBS assessed the effectiveness of this program against established benchmarks, reaching set targets with improvements across all measures.
In 2018-19, the model was extended to include two flagship learning offerings:
- Digital Leadership addresses the skills and mindset required to lead in a digital age of constant change as SBS adapts to, and influences, audience expectations.
- Inclusive Leadership explores what it means to be an inclusive leader and the business case for inclusivity – up to 87 per cent more effective decision making occurs within diverse and inclusive teams.*
