Private Collect
The department encourages separated parents to manage their child support responsibilities independently through Private Collect arrangements. In Private Collect cases, the paying parent pays child support directly to the other parent or non-parent carer.
In 2018–19, 51.5 per cent of cases were Private Collect.
Child Support Collect
If parents cannot make and receive child support payments directly between themselves, they can ask the department to collect and transfer payments on their behalf.
In 2018–19, the department collected and transferred $1.6 billion in child support payments.
