Creative learning in the bush
Our partners and colleagues at the University of Wollongong continued to be active across all our sites bringing research clusters, academics and students to stay in the Boyd Education Centre at Riversdale and using the natural resources and isolation of the properties to explore a range of disciplines including archeology, visual arts, philosophy, geology and creative writing throughout the year.
Partnering with Red Room Poetry’s Poetry in First Languages (Gumea-Dharawa) program, we developed workshops for local primary and secondary Aboriginal students led by poet Kirli Saunders and local custodians Jacob Morris and Adrian Webster. This program reflects the deeper connection between Bundanon Trust and our local Aboriginal communities.
Our school programs, which immerse children in the bush and encourage them to explore their creative potential, saw demand grow for larger school groups to come into residence. Some of this need was unable to be met due to current constraints, however this demand anticipates our expanded accommodation offer from 2021, with the realisation of the Riversdale infrastructure development.
