Case study: Clinician Vaccine Integrated Platform (CVIP)

To support rollout of the Australian Government’s national vaccination program launched in February 2021, the Agency developed a new digital platform to boost the upload of COVID-19 vaccination records to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

The Clinician Vaccine Integrated Platform (CVIP) is a mobile-optimised solution designed specifically for reporting vaccination encounters to the AIR so that vaccination providers can meet legislative requirements.

CVIP bridged the digital divide between the AIR and recognised vaccination providers who do not already have clinical software that reports to the AIR. This may include medical practitioners, pharmacists, nurses and midwives.

To accelerate the national vaccination effort, CVIP was offered free of charge through a web browser or app.

“CVIP provides a much easier and faster way for my pharmacists to access the Australian Immunisation Register before giving an immunisation, so it’s very efficient from a workflow perspective,” commented Brisbane community pharmacy owner, Chris Campbell soon after its March 2021 launch.

Northern Territory Health was the first jurisdiction to adopt CVIP and within four months of its national release, more than 550,000 vaccination encounters were reported to AIR by more than 1700 providers using the Australian Digital Health Agency platform.

Vaccination information reported to the AIR is uploaded automatically to My Health Record, allowing providers and their patients easy access to their immunisation details, including their COVID-19 vaccination details.
