The Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) is an Australian Government agency established by the Building and Construction Industry (Improving Productivity) Act 2016 (BCIIP Act). It commenced operations on 2 December 2016.
As a full-service regulator, the ABCC applies the rule of law to all building industry participants – be they employers, employees, small and family businesses, building associations or unions.
To achieve this, the ABCC relies on three legislative tools – the BCIIP Act, the Fair Work Act 2009 (Fair Work Act) and the Code for the Tendering and Performance of Building Work 2016 (Building Code 2016). The ABCC also continues to monitor and assess compliance with the Building Code 2013.
